Adoption of Proclamation - Start With Hello Week (Academic Support and Federal Programs)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Start with Hello is a violence prevention program developed by Sandy Hook Promise to teach students the skills to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with social isolation. Social isolation is the overwhelming feeling of being left out, lonely or treated like you are invisible. Young people who feel this way may pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development, or choose to hurt themselves or others. Start with Hello Week (September 24-28) is the perfect opportunity to remind students about the importance of reducing social isolation and building connected classrooms, schools and communities and help schools build and sustain a culture of inclusiveness and connectedness year after year. In middle and high schools, through Start with Hello and the student-led SAVE Promise Clubs, students have a direct impact on their school culture by promoting kindness and inclusion.
