EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Latinos in Action (LIA) and Hillsborough County Public Schools desire to ensure high-quality educational programs and leadership experiences that prepare students for life.

The LIA program will be expanded for the 2018/2019 school year to Shields Middle School and Lennard High School from the original three pilot sites: Leto High School, Pierce Middle School, and Webb Middle School from the 2017/2018 school year.

The goal of the LIA program is to empower Latino youth to lead and strengthen their community through college and career readiness.  Participating students will benefit from the three core elements of the LIA program administered via a yearlong elective:  Literacy Tutoring, College and Career Readiness curriculum, and Leadership Development.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
• Improve the high school graduation rate • Provide a student-centered learning environment that engages every child • Develop a culture of respect, trust, and collaboration
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted:  Yes)

EVALUATION
LIA was piloted at three sites in the 2017/2018 school year: Leto High School, Pierce Middle School, and Webb Middle School.  All three schools reported improvements in attendance and standardized test performance by students who participated in LIA.  In fact, the average learning gains for students participating in LIA at the three schools (76 percent) exceeded the schoolwide average learning gains of 54 percent.

Administrators from LIA, participating schools, and Hillsborough County Public Schools will continue to work together to ensure appropriate data are available for the examination of impacts of programs, in a manner that complies with state, federal, and district privacy laws, rules, and regulations.  Results of impact analyses will be provided to the Chief of Schools for dissemination to the appropriate district personnel.
