Recognition of 2019 Law Week Art Contest Winners (Chief of Schools) | |
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY | |
Law Week 2019 was held March 11-15, 2019. The theme for Law Week was “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society”. Attorneys from the Hillsborough County Bar Association – Young Lawyers Division presented mock trials to 3rd and 4th grade students based on The Three Bears vs. Goldilocks and provided the opportunity for 5th grade students to tour the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse. Classroom speakers were offered to middle and high school students. Local attorneys spoke on topics such as careers in the legal profession, the Law Week theme, and topics related to their current curriculum. The total number of students impacted was over 3000. In addition to classroom speakers, middle and high school students had the opportunity to enter the Law Week 2019 Art Contest. Students were asked to submit artwork in any medium related to the Law Week 2019 theme, “Free Speech, Free Press, and Free Society”. Artwork was judged by local attorneys and district staff. The winning artwork is on display in the lobby area of Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center. The following students received top honors for their artwork. They were recognized by the Hillsborough County Bar Association at the Law Day Luncheon on May 8, 2019, and received monetary prizes. High School: 1st Place - Evan Simmers, 9th grade, Blake High School 2nd Place - Taisha Schelhorn, 11th grade, Blake High School 3rd Place - Charlotte Yang, 12th grade, Plant City High School |
