Adoption of Proclamation – Lights On Afterschool (Academic Support and Federal Programs)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Lights On Afterschool, the national celebration of afterschool programs, promotes the importance of quality  afterschool programs in the lives of children, families and communities.  Approximately 21,000 students are enrolled in Hillsborough County Public Schools afterschool programs.  We are committed to investing in the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of our students by providing expanded learning opportunities that will help close the achievement gap and prepare young people to compete in the global economy.  Afterschool programs provide:
  • an atmosphere for children to socialize
  • a safe environment, staffed with caring professionals
  • nutritious, healthy snacks
  • fun, enriching, academic activities
  • time to work on homework with assistance, if needed
Hillsborough County Public Schools recognizes Lights On Afterschool and the positive impact it makes with our students.
