Name the U.S. Navy JR/ROTC wing (Building L) at Tampa Bay Technical High School in memory of First Sergeant Paul Ray Smith

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The principal, faculty, staff, students, and parents request that the U.S. Navy JR/ROTC wing at Tampa Bay Technical High School be named in honor of First Sergeant Paul Ray Smith. First Sergeant Smith, a 1989 graduate of Tampa Bay Tech, died in Iraq during Operation Iraq Freedom. In an April 4, 2005 ceremony, at the White House, President Bush presented the Congressional Medal of Honor to Sgt. Smith's widow and his two children, an 11 year old son and an 18 year old daughter.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

School Board Policy 8.27 states that other facilities such as libraries, playgrounds, and stadiums can be named for educators, outstanding citizens, or for the group or club that assisted most in the establishment.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)

The naming of the ROTC wing at Tampa Bay Technical High School has no monetary impact to the District.
