SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approval of School-Based Appraisal System

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The State Board of Education approved, in May 2005, the Florida Principal Leadership Standards and Compentencies. The three standards -- Instructional Leadership, Operational Leadership, and School Leadership, as well as the 10 identified competencies, provide the cornerstone for administrator skill development to ensure continuous improvement and student achievement at schools. The school-based administrator evaluation process has been revised to include these standards and competencies. The assessment process is tied directly to the standards through quantitative and qualitative evidence designed to improve instruction. Attachment I is a brief summary outlining action taken to accomplish this revision. Attachment II is the procedural manual for school-based administator performance appraisal, including the appraisal instruments for both tenured and non-tenured adminstrators.
