Approve Two-Year Contract with the Florida High School Athletic Association, Inc. (FHSAA) and the City of Plant City, Florida to Host the "FHSAA Softball Finals," May 2006 and May 2007 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

The Florida High School Athletic Association, Inc. negotiates a contract every two years to host the "FHSAA Softball Finals," a tournament to determine the state softball championship teams. For the past four years, this tournament has been hosted by the School District at Ed Radice Park. This contract with FHSAA, the City of Plant City, and the School Board will allow the 2006 and 2007 FHSAA Finals to be held at Plant City Stadium and Randy L. Larson Softball Four-Plex, 1810 East Park Road, Plant City, Florida.

Volunteers are used extensively and all other expenses are paid from gate receipts. Item 11 of the contract provides a guarantee of $7,500 each year to the FHSAA. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission has partnered with the HOST and has agreed to provide the $7,500 guarantee to the FHSAA each year. Item 11 also provides the distribution of gates receipts in the following manner: the first $5,000 of gate receipts will be returned to the HOST (SDHC and the City of Plant City), and the remaining gate receipts will be forwarded to the FHSAA. Item 9 provides that the distribution of receipts from parking and concession operations will be returned to the HOST equally.
