STEPS to a Healthier ROSSAC
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
To assist Title 1 schools in meeting the educational needs of students, Coordinated School Health (CSH) programs are being established in 60 schools as part of the Steps to a Healthier Hillsborough initiative. Due to the strong link between health and academic achievement the CSH model has been shown to improve test scores, improve attendance, decrease discipline problems among students, save money, improve morale, and reduce absenteeism for staff.
Based on the CSH model, employees in the ROSSAC building will start implementing their own worksite wellness program. Resources and community partners like the Health Department and YMCA, available through "Steps to a Healthier Hillsborough" initiative, will provide nutrition education, physical activity programs, smoking cessation, and other programs on-site. Members of the Steps to a Healthier ROSSAC team will be hosting a kick-off event on Wednesday, February 8, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. which will include several screenings by Humana and opportunities to learn about up-coming wellness programs.
