Approve Amendment #1 to Contract #X1317 with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice for After-school and Summer Diversion and Prevention Program for Muller Elementary School - Expand Eligibility for Enrollment (Adult and Community Education)

On December 13, 2005, the School Board approved Contract #X1317 with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice to receive $170,000 for an after-school and summer diversion and prevention program at the University Area Community Center for Muller Elementary School students.

Amendment #1 reduces the eligibility criteria for participation from meeting at least three risk factors to meeting at least one risk factor. Approval of Amendment #1 will permit additional children to receive services of the program. This amendment does not change the contract total of $170,000.

The scope of services under this Contract includes school-aged child care services, tutoring, recreational, cultural, and life skills services for a minimum of 70 at-risk children at the University Area Community Center. The goal is to provide a supervised and safe educational and recreational environment with program focus on improving academic performance. Furthermore, this contract will enable the School District to accept funds for program expenses from the Department of Juvenile Justice, state of Florida.

Funds of $170,000 from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice will be used to provide this program. There is no additional cost to the District.

October 31, 2006. At the conclusion of the grant period, program effectiveness will be evaluated by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
