SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Mass Casualty Drill

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

During the last 27 years, the Hillsborough County School District has participated in the annual multi-agency Mass Casualty Drill. The purpose of this drill is to test the response capabilities of the County's emergency resources, and educate the medical community and the public on the nature of a pandemic emergency and how best to respond to it. In previous years, the School District provided school buses and student volunteers to be involved in mock emergencies such as tornadoes, fires, explosions, radioactive hazardous spills and chemical spills. This year, Armwood High School students and staff volunteers will be involved in a mock Avian Flu Pandemic. This drill will involve local and federal personnel and agencies along with 1,000 Armwood High School students and staff volunteers and approximately 25 school buses will be used.
