Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Database Optimization Services (Information and Technology Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This agreement will continue outsourcing of Database Administrator (DBA) functional requirements in Information Services. On April 20, 2004, the School Board approved an Agreement for Technical Services with Database Optimization Services, to provide a Senior DB2 Database Administrator, Joel Gross; in April 2005, the contract was extended for an additional 2,000 hours. This Agreement for Technical Services continues the provision of a DBA for 2,000 hours of support between March 2006 and March 2007. The DBA responsibilities include database logical modeling and physical design, performance tuning, maintenance, capacity planning, disaster recovery planning and testing, data migrations, software maintenance testing, and upgrades. Database Optimization Services is instrumental in improving performance of the district's databases. The DBA is necessary to continue to support and develop the Lawson and legacy systems.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 6.a.3 Provide edit error reports and other quality controls to assist schools in improving accuracy of student data entered into the district database.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The cost of this agreement will not exceed $120,000.00, payable at the rate of $60.00 per billable hour. Funding for these expenses is from Company 101, Site 9750, Project 9999, Program 620, Function 7750, and Object 310.

EVALUATION

The DBA is under the direct supervision of Richard Laneau, Information Services Data Center Manager, who assigns and reviews tasks and priorities on a weekly basis. Joel Gross provides a weekly status report which is reviewed during the Information Services staff meetings. Performance and requirements of the overall contract are reviewed by Jack Davis, Chief Information and Technology Officer and Gretchen Saunders, Chief Business Officer, to determine if the contract will be recommended for annual renewal.
