SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Agreement for Technical Services with Kagan Professional Development Group, Who Will Provide Professional Development Training for Teachers in the Renaissance Schools (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Kagan Professional Development Group will provide a workshop on the structures for Cooperative Learning. This one-day workshop will give teachers strategies for creating a cooperative learning environment through team building. Teachers will be given classroom arrangement strategies to enhance and promote higher-level thinking skills. These strategies can be incorporated into all curricular areas for the purpose of increasing student achievement. This workshop will be open to any K-8 teacher who is currently working in one of the Renaissance schools. This workshop is part of the Renaissance Schools' Institute in conjunction with the Title I office. The Renaissance Schools are as follows: Elementary - Bing, Burney, Clair-Mel, Cleveland, DeSoto, Edison, Foster, Graham, James K-5, Just, Mort, Oak Park, Palm River, Potter, Robles, Ruskin, Shaw, Sheehy, Sulphur Springs, BT Washington, West Tampa, Wimauma, Witter; Middle Schools - Franklin, VanBuren.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5- The district will eliminate the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This Technical Service Agreement will be paid using Title I dollars.

EVALUATION

Anticipated by June 26, 2006, all participants will complete an opinionnaire designed to measure the quality of the training provided by Kagan Professional Development Group. By September 30, 2006, all participants will complete an effectiveness survey to determine if the professional development provided by Kagan Professional Development Group had a positive impact on the culture of the teacher's classroom and student learning.
