SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve the Technical Service Agreement for Steve Sassaman, consultant for Performance Learning Systems, who will develop a course and provide professional development training for teachers in Title I schools.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Performance Learning Systems will develop a course for 25 seasoned and beginning teachers currently working in Title I schools (Bing, Burney, Clair-Mel, Cleveland, DeSoto, Edison, Foster, Graham, James K-5, Just, Mort, Oak Park, Palm River, Potter, Robles, Ruskin, Shaw, Sheehy, Sulphur Springs, Washington, B.T., West Tampa, Wimauma, Witter, Franklin & Van Buren). Throughout the course, participants will identify how the brain receives information and creates meaning from it, understand characteristics of a brain-compatible learning environment, study brain-based instructional strategies, and learn how to create an enriched classroom environment. Participants will also hone their understanding of how to apply four cognitive processes (induction, deduction, analysis, and synthesis) to their lesson planning and instructional practice in a way that enhances the benefits of brain-compatible learning and further increase student comprehension and achievement.
Steve Sassaman will conduct a train-the-trainer session for selected trainers on June 20 - 22, 2006. This course will be offered throughout the school year to any teacher currently working in a Title I school.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 5- The district will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
This Technical Service Agreement will be paid using
Title I dollars.
EVALUATION
ANTICIPATED DATE: by June 23, 2006, all participants/trainers will complete an opinionnaire designed to measure the quality of the course provided by Performance Learning Systems.
By May 1, 2007, all participants will complete an effectiveness survey to determine if the course designed by Performance Learning Systems had a positive impact on their classroom culture and student learning.
