SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the No Child Left Behind Act, Title V Project Innovative Programs for the Period of July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. (Student Services & Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

An application for federal entitlement funds under Title V is submitted annually to the Florida Department of Education. Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, we are able to transfer funds in the amount of $2,400,000 from Title II to add to our Title V allocation of $600,000 along with our estimated roll forward for a total grant amount of approximately $3,000,000. The addition of the Title II funds will allow us the necessary financial resources to provide services using the majority of the grant for 18 high and 24 middle schools with Student Intervention Personnel, which are an integral part of our Unitary Status Plan, as well as approximately 25 nurse positions. As required under federal law, the private school component (approximately $80,000) will assist in serving up to 39 eligible private schools to purchase audio visual materials, library books, computers and software

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5: The district will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The $3,000,000 federal entitlement dollars are distributed through the Florida Department of Education in Tallahassee. This item is included in District Special Revenue/Federal Program Budget.

EVALUATION

The Title V office responds in the form of an Annual Report that will be sent to the state on 10/14/2006, which will include the results of the services provided to both the public and private schools.
