Recognition of Finalists and Winners of the 2006 Hillsborough County 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The annual 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest, a partnership between 4-H, Tropicana, Inc. and the district, provides students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 with the opportunity to participate in a public speaking contest. It supports the district reading and writing expectations. Contest participants gather information, organize the material, write, and deliver their speeches at the school, area, and district level. Participating students develop the ability to express ideas effectively with poise and confidence. The contest promotes high expectations for students in all participating schools. A list of the outstanding student finalists and winners is attached.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Goal 4 - The percentage of students achieving a score of 4.0 or higher on FCAT writing will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: No)
Funds of $225 to cover the cost of the awards are included in the divisional general operating budget.
