The renovation of Mitchell Elementary School was planned by the architectural firm of Abell Garcia Architects P.A. On January 13, 2004, the Board appointed the construction management firm of R.J. Bunbury Company, Inc. The scope of work includes re-roofing, painting and sealing of the exterior, construction of a new elevator, replacement of the HVAC system, upgrades to the electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems, correction of moisture infiltration, new intercom and fire sprinkler systems, door hardware replacement, and miscellaneous safety upgrades. The scope also includes restoration of ceiling heights in the corridors, interior and exterior transom windows, wood floors in the corridors and classrooms, replacement of classroom light fixtures with pendant fixtures, and replacement of ceiling finishes and heights in classrooms.

This change order provides for painting, removal of lead paint from stairwells, refinishing of wood trim and flooring, and repair of existing drywall ceilings, walls and plaster. This work is funded by a grant from the Florida Department of State - Division of Historical Resources.
