Approve the Summer Food Service Program for 2006 in Hillsborough County Schools That Meet the Eligibility Criteria (Business Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
For the past eleven summers, the Student Nutrition Department has operated the Summer Food Service Program. Schools with at least 50% free and reduced meal eligibility during the regular school year qualify for this program. Schools that qualify are able to provide nutritious breakfast and lunch to children in the community under the age of 18 free of charge. Benefits generated from this program include providing nutritious meals to needy children, offering summer employment to student nutrition personnel, and generating additional reimbursement revenue. The extended year programs that will benefit from this summer food program include, Exceptional Student Education, School Age Child Care, Head Start, 21st Century Reading Camp and Voluntary PreKindergarten.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 6 - All schools in the District will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C. Studies show the positive impact that school meals have on test scores, behavior, and the incidence of tardiness and absenteeism.

Projected Net Profit to the Student Nutrition Program $41,927.
