Approve Cost Reimbursable Subagreement #5830-474-00-F (School Contract – Department of Education) with University of South Florida for GEAR UP 2 Grant - $39,974 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The GEAR UP grant was implemented at Hillsborough High School in September 2005 and provides comprehensive, holistic services to students to close the achievement gap as well as to prepare them for participation in higher education. A subagreement for GEAR UP 2 has been developed to cover the Summer Program which will continue serving approximately 100 students that were served during the regular school year. The University of South Florida (USF) will provide a project manager and mentors for the student participants. The District will provide teachers, administrator, school resource officer, and student transportation. USF will reimburse the District, on a cost reimbursement basis, $39,974 to cover all expenses for the summer GEAR UP 2 program. The District will collect and provide assessment data to the outside evaluator of the grant, who will submit a copy of the annual evaluation report to the District’s Office of Assessment and Accountability.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

GOAL 5 - The District will close the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The University of South Florida will compensate the District on a cost reimbursement basis $39,974 to cover all expenses for the summer GEAR UP 2 program. There is no additional cost to the district.

EVALUATION

12/30/2006. The District will collect and provide assessment data to the outside evaluator for the grant, who will submit a copy of the annual evaluation report to the District’s Office of Assessment and Accountability.
