SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Discretionary Lottery Report for Quarter Ending March 31, 2006 (Business Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 1995 Florida Legislature adopted an amendment to Section 24.121 Florida Statutes, requiring local school districts to make available to the public a quarterly report displaying discretionary lottery revenue and expenditures. For the quarter ending March 31, 2006, the School District expended $2,741,941 of the $9,399,368 in discretionary lottery funds estimated for fiscal year 2005-2006. Lottery funds are used to (1) provide student instruction BEYOND 5/HRS. a day, (2) support the School Improvement Program partially funded by state "categorical" revenue and (3) provide funding to charter schools in Hillsborough County. (Lottery revenue is based on the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) third calculation data).
