SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Categorical Funding Between the School District of Hillsborough County and the State of Florida, Department of Health, for School Health Services (Student Services & Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This categorical funding is provided annually through the State General Revenue dollars. The allocation for the 2006-07 school year is $506,648.00. The average salary per registered nurse (RN) is $33,833.20, plus $9,798.09 for District fringe benefits (29%), would equal an average salary of $43,631.29 per RN. The total combined salary for all 11 RN’s would be $479,944.19.

The balance of $26,703.81 is used for clinical supplies: alcohol, Aloe Vera Gel, Bandaids, Benadryl Elixir, chewable vitamins, cough drops, Hydrocortisone 1% Cream, Motrin Children’s Liquid, Robitussin DM, Tums, vitamin A&D Ointment, disposable A swabs, Otoscope Tips, Steri Strips, thermometer, heating pads, B/P cuff – one each adult, child & large, stethoscope, vinyl gloves, Epi Pens, Symbol Charts for Snellen Eye Exams and exam table paper.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 – The District will eliminate the FCAT achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

$506,648.00 – From the General Appropriations Act, Human Services Budget (State of Florida General Revenue Dollars).

EVALUATION

The annual report and plan are submitted to the Department of Health. Data is collected from monthly reports submitted by school nurses.
