EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
AVID helps average academic, low socio-economic, first-generation College bound, and/or minority students to achieve the dream of going to college. The program equips the students with the necessary skills to be successful at both the high school and college levels by enrolling them into college preparatory courses, such as Advanced Placement and Honors. The AVID elective class offers academic support for the students. The students learn effective note-taking, study, and organizational skills. They receive career and college counseling, goal setting assistance, and extensive academic instruction. These components ensure that a student has every opportunity to be successful. AVID research has shown that this program increases the number of students enrolled in advanced placement courses and academic success in rigorous and relevant curricula.
