SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Contract Between the Hillsborough County Public Schools and Easter Seals Florida, Inc. for Teen Parent Child Care Services, Effective August 1, 2006 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Easter Seals Florida, Inc. will deliver child care services for student participants in the Teen Parent Programs at Burney Simmons Career Center and D.W. Waters Career Center by staffing and maintaining a child care facility at each above site. This contract provides services for the period of August 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The total of $250,000 ($4,830 – average annual cost per child at a Gold Seal accredited site), which is 100% of the funding, comes from the Florida Department of Education and is expended for child care. Approximately 52 infants and toddlers whose mothers participate in the Alternative Education Teen Parent Program are provided child care services. The monthly payments are based on student attendance and the daily rate and cannot be a fixed cost.

EVALUATION

This office will conduct a year-end monitoring by June 1, 2007, and report its findings to the Board by August 1, 2007.
