SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Grant Application to the Florida Department of Education, and if Approved, Accept Funds for SUCCEED Florida – Career Paths, 2006/2007 - $806,000 (Technical and Career Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Florida Department of Education Division of Workforce Education 2006/2007 SUCCEED Florida Career Paths competitive grant application seeks continuation funding of $56,000 for the Middleton Academy of Aeronautics. In addition, the district is submitting 10 applications for $75,000 each for assistance with career academy programming and development at Armwood, Brandon, Chamberlain, East Bay, Hillsborough, Leto, Middleton, Jefferson, Riverview, and Wharton High Schools.

A summary of the funding criteria is attached. The district application will be for the maximum allowable funding for a total of $806,000.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

If approved, grant funds of $806,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget. Administrative costs are included in the grant budget.

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation measures are determined by the Florida Department of Education. The annual state performance report will be completed in December 2007. The results of the evaluation will be shared with all stakeholders.
