Approve Cooperative Agreement with Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, FL Unit for Recorded Books and Equipment, 2006/2007 - $26,250 (Exceptional Student Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFBD) is a national non-profit organization that provides recorded books and equipment for individuals with vision and learning disabilities. RFBD has provided necessary books and equipment for individual exceptional students for several years. The number of identified students in need of recorded educational materials has increased to the point that a Cooperative Agreement is required to ensure that appropriate assistance is provided. The Cooperative Agreement with Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, FL Unit for 2006/2007 will provide institutional membership for 25 books per year at an annual fee of $350 each for 75 sites for a total of $26,250.

Student data analysis verifies that supplemental educational materials provided by RFB&D assist ESE students to achieve at higher levels. The Agreement has been reviewed by the School Board attorney.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

Funds of $26,250 are included in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) budget, Project 1231.
