Approve Restructure of Divisions/Departments

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Superintendent, as a result of assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of divisional structures and operations recommends reorganizing several divisions and assigning several operating departments to different divisions.

The Superintendent also recommends changing Ken Otero’s position from Chief of Staff to Deputy Superintendent and appropriately reclassifying the positions. Mr. Otero’s position would support the Superintendent’s Office as indicated on the attachment, and the divisions of Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, and Student Services & Federal Programs.

Mr. Valdez’s position would chair the Superintendent’s Cabinet, operate the Division of Human Resources and support the divisions of Business, Information & Technology, and Facilities.

As with any position the Superintendent will make changes to and additions of responsibilities for these positions as she deems appropriate.

The Chief of Staff position will be eliminated immediately, and the position will be changed to an Administrator on Special Assignment (for one year only) with the title of Chief Officer for District Compliance. See attachment for details.

$3,460.49 annually, including benefits –Administrative Salary Schedule X14 –General Fund, Part I.
