SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Agreement for Technical Service for New Frontier 21, LLC, Who Will Provide a Professional Learning Community Coaching Academy to Teachers in Selected Title I Corrective Action Schools (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

New Frontier 21, LLC will design and provide a Professional Learning Community (PLC) Coaching Academy to teachers in selected Title I Corrective Action schools. Mr. Muhammad will provide ten days of professional development, divided equally between the elementary cadre and the secondary cadre, with each cadre receiving five days. A follow-up day will be provided in May for teachers to reflect upon the academy and plan for the next school year. This academy will support the implementation of Professional Learning Communities by providing facilitators with implicit assistance. The specific objectives for this academy are as follows: (1) Laying the Foundation for Improvement, (2) Utilizing Data to Improve Student Learning, (3) Sustaining Professional Learning Communities Through Effective Facilitation Skills, and (4) Pedagogy- including Cultural and Socioeconomic Considerations for Instruction. The information and supporting material that will be presented in this academy will help facilitators sustain professional learning communities that dialogue effectively and work collaboratively for the purpose of increased student achievement.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 5 - The District will eliminate the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) achievement gap by a minimum of 10 percentage points as reported by No Child Left Behind.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

The amount of $36,701 will be paid using Title I funds.

EVALUATION

ANTICIPATED: By May 24, 2007, all participants will complete an opinionnaire designed to measure the quality of the academy provided by New Frontier 21, LLC.
