SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

ENERGY CONSERVATION MENTOR POSITIONS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As part of the district's energy conservation plan, four positions are being created to be "energy mentors" to principals and other site administrators, to achieve the goal of a reduction of at least 10 percent of kilowatt hours used and a savings of over $3 million dollars. Modeled after a program that has been successful in other school districts, the energy mentors will monitor energy use and develop and implement energy conservation programs in county school district facilities. Energy mentors will work up to 50 percent of the time at night or on weekends, to observe activities that consume energy and to provide feedback to all levels of personnel that use the school facilities. A careful review and monitoring of a site's energy use, compared to site specific targets, will be conducted and shared with school principals and site administrators. The Energy Conservation Mentor positions are structured such that the continuation of the position will be reviewed annually and will only be renewed if the individual goal of a 10 percent savings in each individual mentor's assigned area is achieved. Annual review of district energy usage will determine subsequent annual savings goals.
