SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Resolution to Adopt the National Incident Management System (NIMS)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5, Management of Domestic Incidents established guidelines and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) to unify and coordinate federal, state, territorial, tribal, and local governments to work effectively and efficiently in preparation of domestic incidents. Since the inception of NIMS, the Hillsborough County School System has incorporated these strategies into district-critical incident management plans. Key staff members have been trained and best practices will continue to be incorporated into the district’s preparedness efforts. In order to receive federal assistance for critical incident management, a resolution is required to adopt the policies of NIMS and ensure compliance, as it relates to emergency and crisis plans developed and monitored by the Security Services Department.
