SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Modification Number 1 to Training Vendor Agreement with Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, Inc. for 2006/2007 (Adult Technical Education and Adult and Community Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On August 8, 2006, the School Board approved the Training Vendor Agreement, Contract 655, with Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, Inc. (TBWA) for the Fiscal period July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007. This Training Provider Contract provides an annually updated schedule of programs and training costs for eligible adults sponsored by Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding. Contract 655, Modification Number 1 to the Training Vendor Agreement agrees for TBWA to pay $25 toward drug screening fees for Individual Training Account (ITA) candidates enrolled in job training programs for the medical field, excluding phlebotomy candidates.

WIA funding allows adults to access technical, career, and adult education programs. These programs are provided at Aparicio-Levy, Brewster, Erwin, and Learey Technical Centers; Tampa Bay Technical Evening Center; and Adult and Community Education Centers throughout the county. WIA provides funds for tuition, books, fees, uniforms, and related supportive services.

During the 2005/2006 school year, approximately 68 WIA clients were students in our technical centers, of which 39 were enrolled in health programs which require drug testing.
