Approval of Participation in the 2006-2007 Classrooms for Kids Program

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In an effort to meet class size reduction mandates, the 2003 General Appropriations Act approved by the Legislature provided for the sale of lottery revenue bonds to fund the Classrooms for Kids program. The District has participated in previous bond sales totaling $92,635,923 for classroom additions. Hillsborough County's allocation from the 2006-2007 General Appropriations Act is $139,682,849 in non-bonded general revenue.

To participate, the School Board must certify that sufficient student capacity does not exist within facilities to meet the constitutional class size requirements and provide a list of projects included in the program. The projects must be in addition to those previously included in the five-year work plan to ensure that there is not a supplantation of funds.

Attachment I identifies the recommended 2006-2007 Classrooms for Kids capital outlay projects. Attachment II is the Board certification required to participate in the program.
