The state of Florida has designated the week of November 13-19, 2006, as Florida Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week that recognizes the need for prevention of spinal cord injuries.

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation is a 501C.3 organization with a goal to prevent and ultimately cure spinal cord injuries with special emphasis on educational programs targeting high school students. Darrell Gwynn Foundation speakers will visit 3 high schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Orange, Hillsborough, and Duval counties. The speakers will present spinal cord injury awareness training to the Health Science and Drivers Education students at Alonso, Bloomingdale, and Tampa Bay Technical High Schools. Schools were selected based on the current program offerings in health science and driver education.
