TEACHING AND LEARNING PRESENTATION

Focus on Student Achievement: Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (Career and Technical Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) programs are an integral part of our high schools and our school district. Currently, 22 high schools have JROTC programs and applications have been submitted for Lennard, Sickles, and Spoto High Schools. The JROTC programs includes 7 Army units, 8 Navy units, 6 Air Force units, and 1 Marines unit.

Through involvement in JROTC, students are able to make meaningful career choices. The curriculum reinforces occupational knowledge and skills, strengthens leadership capabilities, and improves personal attributes and self confidence. Because of the strong integration of JROTC training and studies in citizenship, history, first aid, meteorology, and geography, JROTC programs are a significant source of well-prepared young men and women.
