Approve Reimbursement of $500 per Participating School for Personnel Time Associated with the University of South Florida’s Sun Protection for Florida’s Children Grant, 2JRO1 CA103965-01 (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

The University of South Florida (USF), Department of Family Medicine, seeks to reimburse each school participating in the Sun Protection for Florida’s Children grant (see attached list), funded by the National Cancer Institute (2JRO1 CA103965-01), $500 for personnel time associated with the project. Project partners include the University of South Florida Department of Family Medicine, MoreHealth, Inc, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, and Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS). The project provides educational packets and two wide-brimmed hats to all fourth graders at participating schools to increase sun protection knowledge and behaviors. At the end of the project, fourth graders at control schools (see attached list) will also be provided with packets and hats.

GOAL 6. All schools in the District will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C.

Funding for the $500 school reimbursement will be provided by the University of South Florida, Department of Family Medicine, Sun Protection for Florida’s Children grant (2JRO1 CA103965-01).

Under the terms of the grant, the USF Department of Family Medicine is responsible for project evaluation. A copy of the final evaluation report will be provided to HCPS’s office of Assessment and Accountability. The anticipated date for final project evaluation is July 1, 2009.
