EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The 1996 Florida Legislature adopted an amendment to Section 24.121, Florida Statutes, requiring local school districts to make available to the public a quarterly report displaying discretionary lottery revenue and expenditures. For the quarter ending June 30, 2006, the School District expended $2,068,281 of the $9,399,168 in discretionary lottery funds for fiscal year 2005-2006. Lottery funds are used to (1) provide student instruction BEYOND 5/hrs. a day, (2) support the School Improvement Program partially funded by state "categorical" revenue and, (3) provide funding to charter schools in Hillsborough County. (Lottery revenue is based on the Florida Education Finance Program Fourth Calculation Data).
