On September 7, 2004, the Board appointed Howard and Associates Architects, P.A. and Allstate Construction, Inc. to provide design and construction management services for classroom additions at Cannella, McKitrick, Forest Hills, Lake Magdalene, and Mort Elementary Schools. These additions are necessary to meet class size reduction requirements. The scope of work provides for the following additions: 14 classrooms at Cannella, 18 classrooms at McKitrick, 18 classrooms at Forest Hills, 16 classrooms at Lake Magdalene, and 12 classrooms at Mort.

Change Order No. 4 provides for correction of electrical design at Cannella and Mort Elementary Schools, addition of duct smoke detectors at Lake Magdalene and Mort Elementary Schools, relocation of playground equipment conflicting with new construction at Mort Elementary School, and revision of roof design on new addition to address maintenance concerns at Lake Magdalene Elementary School. These changes delayed the completion of the project and resulted in increased costs for general conditions. A time extension is included for completion of the work. Change Order No. 5 provides a credit to the District for costs incurred assisting the construction manager in correcting a blockage in the new sanitary line at Mort Elementary School.

Goal 6 - All schools in the district will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C.
