This project was planned by the architectural firm of Rick Z. Smith & Associates Architects, Inc. On March 12, 2002, the Board appointed the construction management firm of R.J. Bunbury Company, Inc. The scope of work for the conversion of B.T. Washington from a middle school to K-8 was as follows: the existing parking lots were modified, resurfaced, and re-striped to better accommodate the elementary and middle school programs. Areas of poor drainage, missing gutters and downspouts were corrected. Buildings 1, 2, and 3 were remodeled for better utilization and to meet current code requirements. There was an addition of a Science lab and two Science classrooms. Building 4 was demolished and a new building was constructed to house 8 classrooms. Existing main electrical service, fire alarm, security, intercom, telephone and data systems, lighting, casework, teaching aids, and ceilings were replaced campus-wide. Mechanical system revisions were made to upgrade the toilet room exhausts, and replace the air handler in administration. The entire campus was painted. Floor finish replacement was handled on a room-by-room basis.

The architect advises that the referenced project is finally complete in accordance with the plans and specifications and other contract documents and recommends Board acceptance.

Goal 6 - All schools in the district will be assigned a state grade of A, B, or C.
