TEACHING AND LEARNING PRESENTATION

Focus on Student Achievement: Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Database (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Our district elementary mathematics curriculum continues to be defined by the Sunshine State Standards and district grade level expectations. There are multiple resources at all school sites for teachers to use to ensure the effective instruction of the mathematics curriculum.

The purpose of the Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Database is to provide teachers with a relatively simple means of identifying lessons and activities that target specific mathematics concepts. Teachers have multiple options in selecting materials that address the Sunshine State Standards. This electronic tool allows all teachers to select particular mathematics resources to locate lessons within those resources that target whole group and small group instruction. By using the database, teachers can differentiate instruction through the selection of lessons/activities suggested as above level, on level, and below level. In addition to lessons/activities, teachers can find homework suggestions and literature titles that connect to the mathematics concepts/skills covered in our curriculum.

The database is continualy being updated and improved to provide support to teachers. Topics 1-4 in the district mathematics calendar are already complete and upcoming topics are being populated daily.

Further information and instruction on use has been and will continue to be provided at every elementary mathematics training opportunity throughout the 2006/2007 school year.
