Approve Agreement for Technical Services with viaLanguage to Translate District Student Handbook in Haitian Creole Language - $22,818 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On July 26, 2006, Hillsborough County Public Schools received from the Florida Department of Education the Florida Increasing Refugee Student Achievement grant for $280,000 for 2006/2007, Project 1211. A component of the grant includes contracted language translation services. There are over 530 Haitian Creole immigrant refugees identified in the district, representing the second largest English Language Learner population.

The Agreement with viaLanguage provides delivery within 32 business days of the district Student Handbook and Glossary/Style Guide translated in the Haitian Creole language. The Student Handbook in Haitian Creole language will ensure Haitian Creole immigrant refugee families access to meaningful communication relevant to their success as Hillsborough County Public School students.

Funds of $22,818 are included in the district special revenue/federal programs budget in the Florida Refugee Student Grant, Project 1211. There is no additional cost to the District.
