Approve the Naming and Dedication of the Alonso High School Auditorium in Honor of Dr. Sandy Bunkin

The staff, community members, and students of Alonso High School have requested that the auditorium be named and dedicated in honor of Dr. Sandy Bunkin. Dr. Bunkin served the Hillsborough County School System for 29 years as a teacher, Assistant Principal for Student Affairs at Van Buren Middle School, and Principal at Van Buren Middle School and Robinson High School, and ultimately served as Principal at Alonso High School until her retirement in 2006. Her high ideals and compassionate interactions with students, teachers, and parents have left a lasting impression upon all with whom she worked. She enthusiastically supported Alonso High School’s performing arts program by attending every function and performance. The staff, community members, and students would like to celebrate and honor her tireless dedication to nurturing both students and staff during her tenure at Alonso High School.

Other: this is in accordance with Policy 8.27 (Procedure Summary) which governs that school sites and facilities shall be named for individuals who have rendered outstanding public service to public education, for geographical locations and for groups and clubs as indicated. Elementary, middle and secondary schools – for presidents, school board members, educators, outstanding citizens and geographical locations.

There is no cost to the school district.
