SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary Adjustment Between Mulrennan Middle School and Mann Middle School.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This proposal reassigns 258 Mulrennan Middle School students to Mann Middle School effective August 2007. The proposed attendance boundary adjustment is being recommended in order to relieve overcrowding at Mulrennan Middle School. Mulrennan Middle School has a student enrollment of 1365 students on the 40th day. This translates into a capacity by rooms of 70 classrooms. Mulrennan Middle School has a current capacity of 50 classrooms which leaves it with a 20 classroom deficit. The classroom capacity will increase to 60 rooms with the addition of 10 classrooms in a new wing that will be available in August 2008. This will leave Mulrennan Middle School with a deficit of 10 classrooms. The attendance boundary adjustment proposal would reassign 258 Mulrennan Middle School students to Mann Middle School reducing the classroom need to 57 classrooms which would leave a surplus of 3 classrooms at Mulrennan Middle School. The district projects an additional 68 middle school students through growth in the Mulrennan area in the next five years.

Mann Middle School has an enrollment of 885 students on the 40th day. This translates into a capacity by rooms of 48 classrooms. Mann Middle School has a current capacity of 58 rooms which leaves it with a surplus of 10 classrooms. The attendance boundary adjustment that would move 258 Mulrennan students to Mann and fill all available seats.
