SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve the Recommendations for School Clubs Operating Guidelines for the 2007-2008 School Year (Revised Attachment-Page 6)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Club/Organization committee reviewed the information previously gathered and made three recommendations in an effort to systematize the formation and implementation of clubs in our schools:
  1. Provide a parent awareness form that would give parents the opportunity to assist their students in the club selection process;
  2. Provide operational guidelines to schools in order to achieve consistency with the formation of clubs and organizations throughout the school district; and
  3. Provide a waiver form and guidelines for those participants who engage in activities off of school grounds and are not sanctioned by Hillsborough County School Board.

The club/organization information will be communicated to students and parents by school newsletters, flyers sent home with students, school websites and student handbooks. These procedures will become effective during the 2007-2008 school year.

There will be an additional $5,000 cost for the printing of the student handbooks. This sum is already funded in the budget of the Division of Administration.
