SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary for Hammond Elementary School

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Hammond Elementary School is being built on the Walker Middle School campus in the northwest section of the county at the intersection of Gunn Highway and N. Mobley Road. The school is expected to open in August 2007 and will provide relief for Citrus Park Elementary School, McKitrick Elementary School, and Schwarzkopf Elementary School.

The proposed attendance boundary for Hammond Elementary School will reassign 202 students from Citrus Park Elementary School, 260 students from McKitrick Elementary School, and 114 students from Schwarzkopf Elementary School for a total enrollment of 576 students at Hammond Elementary School. Citrus Park Elementary, with an enrollment of 787 students, requires 56 classrooms. It has a core capacity of 43 classrooms which leaves it with a deficit of 13 classrooms. This proposal would reassign 202 students to Hammond Elementary School which would leave Citrus Park Elementary School with an enrollment of 585 students requiring 43 classrooms leaving it with a surplus of 1 classroom. McKitrick Elementary School with an enrollment of 1091students requires 70 classrooms. It has a core capacity of 56 classrooms which leaves it with a current deficit of 14 classrooms. This proposal would reassign 260 students to Hammond Elementary School, which would leave McKitrick Elementary School with an enrollment of 831 students, requiring 54 classrooms. This would leave McKitrick Elementary School with a surplus of 2 classrooms. Schwarzkopf Elementary School, with an enrollment of 725 students requires 48 classrooms. It has a core capacity of 32 classrooms leaving it with a deficit of 16 classrooms. This proposal would reassign 114 students to Hammond Elementary School which would leave Schwarzkopf Elementary School with an enrollment of 611 students requiring 41 classrooms. This would leave Schwarzkopf Elementary School with a deficit of 9 classrooms. Hammond Elementary School would have a combined enrollment of 576 students which would require 34 classrooms. It will have a core capacity of 51 classrooms leaving it with a surplus of 17 classrooms.
