SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary Adjustment Between Potter Elementary School and James Elementary School

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The proposed attendance boundary adjustment will be effective August 2007. It will address student overcrowding at Potter Elementary School by reassigning 149 students to nearby James Elementary School which has available classroom space. Potter Elementary School has a current enrollment of 766 students which requires 50 classrooms. It has a core capacity of 34 classrooms which leaves it with a deficit of 16 classrooms. This proposal would reassign 149 students from Potter Elementary School to James Elementary School which would leave Potter Elementary School with an enrollment of 617 students which would require 39 classrooms. This would reduce the classroom deficit to 5 classrooms at Potter Elementary School. James Elementary School currently has an enrollment of 389 students which requires 26 classrooms. James Elementary School has a core capacity of 34 classrooms which leaves it with a surplus of 8 classrooms. The students reassigned to James Elementary School would increase its enrollment to 538 students which requires 34 classrooms. This would leave James Elementary School at its capacity.
