SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Proposed Attendance Boundary Adjustment Between Schmidt Elementary School and Kenly Elementary School

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The proposed attendance boundary adjustment will be effective August 2007. It will address student overcrowding at Schmidt Elementary School by reassigning 110 students to nearby Kenly Elementary School which has available classroom space. Schmidt Elementary School has a current enrollment of 715 students which requires 46 classrooms. It has a core capacity of 38 classrooms which leaves it with a deficit of 8 classrooms. This proposal would reassign 110 students from Schmidt Elementary School to Kenly Elementary School which would leave Schmidt Elementary School with an enrollment of 605 students requiring 39 classrooms. This would reduce the classroom deficit at Schmidt Elementary School from 8 classrooms to 1 classroom. Kenly Elementary School currently has an enrollment of 481 students which requires 30 classrooms. Its core capacity is 36 classrooms which leaves it with a surplus of 6 classrooms. The students reassigned to Kenly would increase its enrollment to 591 students requiring 35 classrooms. This would leave Kenly Elementary School with a surplus of 1 classroom.
