SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve The Technical Service Agreement for Catapult Learning To Provide a Literacy Institute for Title I Teachers at Ten Private Schools (Student Services and Federal Programs Division)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Private schools that receive Title I Staff Development dollars may use these funds to provide training to Title I teachers at their sites. By law, the School District must provide equitable services to Private Schools with Title I funds. After meaningful consultation between school district representatives and private school officials, ten private schools chose to pool their funds to contract with Catapult Learning to provide a Literacy Institute for their Title I teachers which will focus on instructional reading strategies. The schools include Christ the King, Corpus Christi, Incarnation, Most Holy Redeemer, Sacred Heart, St. Joseph, St. Lawrence, St. Peter Claver, St. Stephen, and Villa Madonna. This comprehensive contract includes the cost of eight workshops, one key note speaker, four workshop presenters, five training facilitators, all training materials, site rental fee, and stipend pay for all 120 teachers in attendance. Catapult Learning will also be responsible for follow-up with the private schools to support the Title I teachers with implementing the reading strategies.

ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)

Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test in Reading will increase a minimum of 5%.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)

This Technical Service Agreement will be paid using Title I Staff Development dollars ($39,804).

EVALUATION

As required by law, at the conclusion of the 2006-07 school year, district representatives will have meaningful consultation with the ten participating private schools. During these sessions, a survey will be completed by each site director to determine the effectiveness of the training provided by Catapult Learning. This information will be shared with the District and the vendor. This information will be used in determining any future contract awards with Catapult Learning. In addition, at the conclusion of the 2007-08 school year, reading data at the private schools will be analyzed to determine if the strategies implemented by the Title I teachers increased student achievement.
