Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Teachers' Curriculum Institute for Grades 5-12 History Teachers Workshop, July 16-20, 2007 - $9,900 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with Teachers' Curriculum Institute to provide training for 40 teachers, Grades 5-12, July 16-20, 2007, at Burnett Middle School. The five-day workshop entitled “Level 1: History Alive! Powerful Teaching Strategies” will focus on discovering how to tap into students’ multiple intelligences, building content reading skills, using graphically organized reading notes, creating and implementing processing assignments, and assessing students using the multiple intelligences. Woven throughout the training will be techniques for creating a cooperative tolerant classroom environment. The consultant fee includes for each participant, the instructional manual,
Bring Learning Alive, valued at approximately $75.
The three-year, $928,000, Teaching American History Grant was awarded in June 2004. The district received a one-year no cost extension through June 30, 2008.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 1 - The percentage of students scoring at Level 3 or higher on FCAT reading will increase a minimum of 5 percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
Funds of $9,900 are included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget through the Teaching American History Grant, Project 0705. The consultant fee includes for each participant, the instructional manual, Bring Learning Alive, valued at approximately $75.
EVALUATION
September 2008. The evaluation of this training, as measured through student achievement, will be included in the overall Teaching American History Grant evaluation.
