SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approval of Agreement for Technical Services with Activities Integrating Math and Science (AIMS) Education Foundation - $15,090 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
An Agreement for Technical Services has been developed with AIMS Education Foundation to provide training for sixty (60) K-5 teachers on June 11-12, 2007, at Lewis Elementary School. The two 2-day intensive workshops entitled “Two Days with AIMS” will be offered separately to thirty (30) primary teachers and thirty (30) intermediate teachers. Each participant will receive workshop activities, two AIMS books, and engage in a series of hands-on investigations (valued at approximately $65 supplied by the company). They will discuss classroom management of an activity-oriented math/science program and learn how to integrate the AIMS research-based resource materials into the district science expectations and benchmarks.
Teachers will sign up to attend the workshops through the online Professional Development System.
ANNUAL DISTRICT GOAL(S) AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTOR(S)
Goal 3 - Student performance on FCAT science will increase a minimum of five percentage points.
FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
Funds of $15,090 (approximately $125.75 per day/per teacher) are included in the divisional staff development funds, Project 4502. Each participant will receive 2 books and materials from the company valued at approximately $65.
EVALUATION
Participants will take a written exam at the completion of the training. 2008 FCAT science scores for students of participants will be analyzed to determine effectiveness of training.
