Approve Agreement for Technical Services with Vilma Sabella for District Based Mentoring of New Teachers to the District (Information and Technology)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The District is committed to providing support systems for new teachers. This mentor program is part of the teacher induction offered to new teachers in the District. Mentors attend informal training on the philosophy and expectations of the mentoring process as they relate to the Florida Educators' 12 Accomplished Practices. Having this support system improves the effectiveness of new educators.

The mentor will work at Middleton High School with their new teachers. She will be providing 8-16 hours per week of face-to-face mentoring, maintain a log of mentoring activities as they relate back to the 12 Accomplished Practices, log her hours, model best practices for the new teacher, and recommend effective veteran teachers for the new educators to observe.

Staff Development funds will provide $2,400.00 for these services.

EVALUATION

The mentor will provide feedback to the District staff in order to enhance the new teacher district-based mentor program.
