SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS

Approve Renewal Memorandum of Understanding with Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, Inc. for Adult and Community Education, 2007/2008 (Adult and Community Education)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Adult and Community Education Department has requested School Board approval to submit grant proposals for Adult Education and Family Literacy- Adult General Education, ($1,197,190) and Farmworker Jobs and Education Project ($348,486) under the Florida Departmnet of Education, Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education. A major component of these grants is the requirement for a collaborative partnership with the local Workforce Board and One-Stop Centers to enhance existing adult education programs by maximizing the use of available resources for the target population. The target population to benefit from the services includes adults age 16 and above who are educationally disadvantaged, under-educated, in need of completing a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED), immigrants or migrant farm workers, limited English proficient, incarcerated, minority, disabled, homeless, and/or in need of family/intergenerational literacy services.

We are requesting approval of the renewal Memorandum of Understanding developed with Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, Inc. that stipulates referral services including job and postsecondary education placements that will be provided to the target population. This collaboration will provide job skills training and job placement services for adult students participating in the adult education program. For the past four years this collaborative partnership with Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance, Inc. has successfully met project requirements. Hillsborough County Public Schools will continue as the fiscal agent and will be responsible for monitoring, completing, and documenting all grant deliverables.
