SUBJECT / RECOMMENDATIONS
Approve Amendment #002 to Contract #LK763 with the Florida Department of Children and Families for Career Recruitment and Instruction in Basic English (CARIBE) Program for Adult Refugees, 2006-2008, Additional $800,000 (Adult and Community Education)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
We are requesting approval of Amendment #002 to the current CARIBE Program contract #LK763 approved by the School Board on July 25, 2006. Amendment #002 adds the following key elements to the contract terms:
- Adds an additional $800,000 to cover anticipated costs related to increased student enrollments, student counseling, and follow-up activities.
- Two-year grant funding will now serve approximately 3,400 unduplicated student enrollments with an approximate completion rate of 81%.
The CARIBE Program was initiated in the district in 1998 to provide educational services to recent refugees and political asylees and consistently receives exemplary evaluations for program operations.

FINANCIAL IMPACT (Budgeted: Yes)
The additional funds of $800,000 will be included in the divisional special revenue/federal programs budget, Project 1221, for a new grant total of $3,825,000. Indirect costs are included in the grant budget. Grant funding covers all costs for operation of the grant activities.
EVALUATION
October 31, 2007 - Evaluation will include review of all enrollment data for eligibility of enrollees, program completions, and literacy completion points.
